Prous Institute Presents the Prous Institute - Overton & Meyer Award for New Technologies in Drug Discovery to Prof Benjamin F. Cravatt, III

2018 Sep 02 |

Ljubljana, Slovenia: Prous Institute for Biomedical Research is to present the 2018 Prous Institute – Overton & Meyer Award to Professor Benjamin F. Cravatt, III, at the XXV International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry organized by the European Federation of Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC).

The award, conferred every two years, recognizes outstanding contributions to the development of new technologies in the field of medicinal chemistry and acknowledges the awardee’s contribution to the discovery and development of innovative technologies that advance the field.

Prof. Cravatt’ pioneering activities have led to the concept of activity-based protein profiling, which utilizes active site-directed chemical probes to profile the functional state of enzymes in complex proteomes. The technology has been used to characterize several enzymes of central importance to mammalian biology, as well to assign functions to several uncharacterized mammalian enzymes. His research has led to the development of small-molecule inhibitors that are being investigated clinically for the treatment of various human disorders.

Prof. Cravatt is currently Professor and Co-Chair of the Department of Molecular Medicine at The Scripps Research Institute.

The award will be presented during the XXV International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ISMC 2018), to be held on September 2-6, 2018 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
