STAR® : Prediction of Therapeutic Activity

STAR® is a predictive model, complementary to SMAR®, that links chemical structures to potential therapeutic applications, independent of molecular targets. A wide variety of drugs are being successfully used in clinical practice whose exact mechanisms of action are unknown. We estimate that the mechanism of action of 56-59% of small molecules that are marketed or under development remains to be established. As with other predictive models, STAR® is based on a large amount of data generated at the Institute.

Applications

  • Drug repositioning by identifying new therapeutic indications for known drugs.
  • Finding therapeutic applications for new compounds whose molecular targets are not well defined.
  • In silico screening of large libraries for therapeutic intervention.
