Drug Repositioning
Taking advantage of BioEpisteme’s® capabilities, another area of special interest at Prous Institute is the discovery of new targets and new uses for currently marketed drugs or those under development.
Similar adverse effects of clinically dissimilar drugs may be caused by their interactions with common off-targets. Toxicities of some mechanistic classes of drugs can be shown to be similar to those observed in other mechanistic classes of drugs. Hypotheses can emerge that suggest new mechanisms of action for known compounds, and as such new therapeutic indications.
